STATE FLAG FLOWER (PURPLE)

About:
Hayes and Taylor is a locally owned t-shirt company founded in 2011, and let me tell you – this is one sophisticated 2 year-old!

Hayes and Taylor’s Handprinted Apparel is giving Indy a leg to stand on in the world of t-shirt fashion.

It’s important to note: I’m an avid t-shirt wearer! So I know the difference between a simple tee and a vintage, high-quality tee with original print designs. That’s what the guys at Hayes and Taylor are producing.

According to their website, “Hayes and Taylor provides hand printed apparel with a vintage soft feel, inspired by the Sports and Culture of Indiana and beyond.”

They are Indy-based, founded by Brian Kelly and Joe Schnieders who, “love t-shirts and prefer not to wear anything else”.

The tees on their site truly capture the sports spirit of Indiana: creative usage of IN’s state flag, clever Colts designs, IU Hoops, ND Football, even a little Cincinnati Reds love.

I loved their blog post We Finally Made It – congratulations guys! H&T now offers design and print services in-house, more info here.

Recap:
(original design + local concept) + (quality materials + athletic fit) = GREAT T-SHIRT. If you love Indy, want to be urban and shop local… Hayes and Taylor is where it’s at.

Product Review: Salsa Me Krazy

I cannot read the label of this salsa without wanting to dance a bit. It’s hard to type what I’m thinking but it’s something like… “SAL sa’ ME KRAZEE!”

salsa jars

Getting that out of the way – let me get down to the serious salsa review.

Freshness -
As salsa goes, I’m more about the general flavor – not so much the chunks (vegetables). Most generic salsas (Tostitos) do not have fresh vegetables. I find they are often chewy, with a very strange texture. What strikes me most about Salsa Me Crazy is the freshness of the ingredients. Right when you open the jar you’re hit with a garden-fresh scent, deliciousness!
FRESH RATING 5/5

Flavor -
I had the good fortune to try the Mild and Hot versions of Salsa Me Crazy. Mild was my personal favorite. It has a savory, sweet flavor to it, and you could really taste the fresh tomato. The Hot wasn’t as hot as I expected. It has a slight bit of lingering heat that sits on the back of your tongue (Jalapeños). I really like spicy so, I wanted something with more heat, but if you prefer light heat, then I would recommend the Hot. It was also a bit dry.
FLAVOR RATING 3/5

Salsa Me Krazy logoPackaging -
If you or your children are fans of Veggie Tales then you will love the packaging. It begins with a silly smiling tomato. Logo is unique, creative font choice and letter positioning. Backside-label includes a bit a family history, always a plus for me.
PACKAGING RATING 3.5/5

Fact -
Salsa Me Krazy was born out of a secret family recipe passed down from Brenda’s mom Rita. It is made in small batches to ensure the highest quality of flavor.

Lisa Likes: Texting Gloves

Texting While Freezing
It’s Lisa – and my son Graham. And we’re going to research a little bit of science today.

One of the things that you may not know is that I am a wimp in winter. I am not fond of cold fingers. What I’m less fond of is not being able to use my touch pad / touch screen because I have regular gloves on.

Most people think that it’s the heat on your hand that actually allows you to use your touch device.

But that’s not true!

It’s actually bioelectricity. It’s the electricity in your body that’s being conducted by the natural oils, salt and moisture in your skin that allows you to use a touch screen. And most gloves or something else that’s put over your fingers will inhibit you from being able to use your device.

And after myself and the other 100 million Smartphone users complained enough, texting gloves were born. Now we’re going to check them out and see if they actually work.

The first one is, by a company called Agloves. The cool thing about Agloves is that every single one of the fingers has conductivity in it because it has that special fabric woven all through the glove.

The next one is by Isotoner, Smart Touch Gloves. The Isotoner gloves only have the special fabric on the index finger and on the thumb for texting. Let’s see if they work…

The Review
The Isotoner gloves are okay – they work fairly well and I’d give them a B-. The main issue is that the index finger and the thumb have to be perfectly on your finger in order for the gloves to work.

As for the Agloves… they ROCK! They work really well for texting. I’m sure they’d work wonderfully for gaming, your iPhone or any other tablet / touch screen device you may own.

The Agloves get an A+.

Either set is about $25. You can get Agloves at agloves.com. The Isotoner Smart Touch Gloves are available at smarttouchgloves.com and most area department stores.

Holidays and Giving

Strong family tiesStrong Family Ties
When it comes to understanding family, it should be the place where love is the strongest. It should be the place where peace lingers. It should be the place where, when you leave, you yearn to come back. It should be the place where hugs and kisses are commonplace.

It should be.

Sometimes during the Christmas season, there are many who don’t feel the joy and happiness. There are those who don’t feel the hugs and kisses. There are some who don’t feel that peace and comfort. There are those who have no place, no one, and no thing.

Christmas is a season where “reaching out” should be a focus for many. I like to think I reach out all the time, not using Christmas as a reason to touch lives. If we only need Christmas to be a giving people, we have become shallow and commercialized. Thanksgiving and Giving are yearlong goodwill.

Let’s look at the season from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

It is always good to start by being thankful for what we have, whether it is a lot or a little. Many are not thankful. It is not bad to want more, but being thankful offers others an insight into our hearts. Christmas follows the season of Thanksgiving by the focus of giving. It’s great to give to our families and friends, but can we take a few of our dollars and give to a charity?

How about a homeless shelter? How about a battered women’s shelter? How about donating your child’s old toys? Give your old clothing to Goodwill. Visit children in hospitals. It’s interesting that in the middle of the year, donations and support are down. Are we just cyclical givers?

If we can understand the bigger picture here, it will become clearer. When you help make the lives of other people better, not only will you gain a sense of kindness, but the effect on the receivers will cause changes in their own lives. Many of those have become disillusioned with life. Maybe the loss of marriage or family or death of a loved one. We may never quite know exactly what kind of effect this can have. I would love to know that one changed life can then make a difference in another life.

Act of KindnessSelfless Acts of Kindness
Your thanksgiving and giving makes a difference. Let’s start now and not waver in the middle of the year. People need your kind heart throughout the year. Let’s change the world around us by selfless acts of kindness.

Merry Christmas from Bello Romance Photography all year long.
